Edwin Jimeno es uno de los performistas de la generación de los noventa, en sus acciones corporales vemos un profundo interés por la fragilidad humana, por la violación de los derechos, los falsos positivos, las desapariciones forzadas, la deforestación, el control social, los caídos en combate, las luchas internas y sociales.
Desde sus inicios, la mayor parte de su obra gira en torno a la situación social y política de nuestro país, ya que es un convencido de que el arte es memoria, es mensaje y es resistencia a sistemas opresores o a uno mismo.
El uso del cuerpo ha surgido en momentos de posguerra donde los individuos buscan nuevas maneras de expresarse y de defender la vida sin que seas un objetivo militar, muchas de las acciones performativas de Jimeno se acercan al activismo, a la guerrilla de comunicación, o al accionismo vienés, señalando lo que perturba a nuestros cuerpos y al cuerpo social.
Las acciones nos dejan ver cómo afecta el contexto al individuo, al artista y, por consiguiente, a la sociedad, reaccionando y manifestando su oposición.
Las luchas internas, los problemas de pareja, el dolor de una separación o los recuerdos, también hacen parte de ese mundo creativo de Jimeno donde no solo se habla desde el dolor, sino como este puede ser superado por la creación, sublimando ese sentimiento y convirtiéndolo en una experiencia colectiva donde lo acontecido se toma como lección y punto de partida para una sanación. A veces creemos que nuestra voz es la única que necesita ser escuchada, resplandecer, hacer retumbar el suelo, sin darnos cuenta que son muchas voces que tienen la necesidad de expresar algo importante, denunciar o buscar una oportunidad para no ser calladas. Artistas como Edwin Jimeno son la voz de muchas personas que viven en un país bañado en sangre, lleno de hechos violentos que son el pan de cada día, desde que nacimos y tristemente hasta después del día de nuestra muerte seguirá la guerra.
Edwin dentro de su obra enmarca acontecimientos dolorosos, que se han vuelto símbolo de guerra en el país, falsos positivos, asesinatos a defensores de derechos humanos, jóvenes reclutados para servir a una guerra de otros, fragilidad, esclavitud, melancolía, represión de Estado, acontecimiento que al igual que en su obra hablan de la vida y de la muerte.
La influencia de la religión en la obra de Edwin, hace que cada trabajo se vuelva sagrado, consagrado y comprometido con un país, por un territorio equitativo y libre, en palabras del maestro Jimeno: “No es solo Edwin, sino toda una sociedad”. El deber es de todos, de devolverle a sus madres esos hijos arrebatados, de plantar de nuevo ese árbol que exterminaron, de resistir ante una sociedad que nos señala, discrimina y martiriza por pensar diferente, eso nos enseña Edwin y por eso lo importante de su obra, reflejo y memorias de un país herido. Edwin Jimeno is one of the performers of the generation of the nineties. In his corporal actions we see a deep interest in human fragility, in the violation of rights, false positives, forced disappearances, deforestation, social control, the fallen in combat, internal and social struggles.
From the beginning, most of his work revolves around the social and political situation of our country. He is convinced that art is memory, is a message and is resistance to oppressive systems or oneself.
The use of the body has emerged in post-war moments where individuals seek new ways to express themselves and defend life without being a military target. Many of Jimeno’s performative actions are close to activism, communication guerrilla, or Viennese activism, pointing out what affects our bodies and the social body.
The actions let us see how the context affects the individual, the artist, and therefore society, reacting and expressing their opposition. The internal struggles, the problems of a couple, the pain of a separation, the memories, are also part of that creative world of Jimeno where not only the pain is spoken from, but how this can be overcome by the creation, sublimating that feeling and turning it into a collective experience where what happened is taken as a lesson and a starting point for a healing. Sometimes we think that our own voice is the only one that needs to be heard, to shine, to make the ground rumble, without realizing that there are too many voices that need to express something important, to denounce or to look for an opportunity not to be silenced. Artists like Edwin Jimeno are the voice of many people who live in a country bathed in blood, full of violent acts that are our daily bread, since we were born and sadly until after the day we die the war continues.
Edwin’s work frames painful events, which have become a symbol of war in the country, false positives, murders of human rights defenders, young people recruited to serve a war of others, fragility, slavery, melancholy, state repression, events which, as in his work, speak of life and death.
The influence of religion in Edwin’s work, makes every work become sacred, consecrated and compromised with a country, for an equitable and free territory, in the words of master Jimeno: “It is not only Edwin, it is a whole society”. The duty is for all of us, to give back to their mothers the children that were taken away, to plant again that tree that was exterminated, to resist before a society that points out to us, discriminates and martyrizes us for thinking differently, that is what Edwin shows us and for the importance of his work, reflection and memories of a injured country.
